CONTEMPO EVENTS

The dynamic program of Contempo events is planned around all aspects of the contemporary art world. Throughout the calendar year there are over 70 Contempo specific events held at both the Gallery and other major venues throughout Sydney. Informative, educational, practical and fun – the broad and diverse spectrum caters to everyone. Add to that all the other Gallery events that Contempo members have access to and you’ll find more than enough to keep you busy.

Contempo events are also a great social outlet. By bringing people together in relaxed, informal and entertaining settings they offer a platform to meet others, share interests and, of course, have fun. 		ART ALIVE: INSIGHT TO SYDNEY'S ARIS Saturday 4 July, 2009 Sydney's Artist Run Initiatives (ARIs) play a vital role in Sydney's Contemporary Art Scene. Join Contempo and Matchbox Projects on a walking tour through some of Inner Sydney's ARIs.
		CONTEMPO HIGH TEA & A TOUR: INTENSELY DUTCH Sunday 5 July, 2009 Join Contempo for a tour of the Intensely Dutch exhibition and then discuss the works over a plentiful assortment of delicious savoury and sweet treats with High Tea in the Restaurant.
		AROUND THE WORLD WITH CONTEMPO: LONDON CALLING Thursday 9 July, 2009 Join Contempo as they launch their new series for 2009-2010 - Around the World with Contempo. Can you here the ring from that iconic red phone booth? It's London's Calling...
		DIAMOND DREAMING: ABORIGINAL ART AND DIAMONDS Wednesday 15 July, 2009 Join Contempo to learn about the unique influence of Aboriginal culture on jewellery design with artist Alison Page and pink diamond expert Michael Neuman. Evening includes a guided tour of the Yiribana Gallery.
		CONTEMPO ART FOR STARTERS Begins Wednesday 2 September, 2009 Like art but don’t really know much about it? Art for Starters could be for you. It is designed for beginners as a “crash course” in the fundamentals of art history and art appreciation.

		MEMBERS FREE VIEWING: SILK IKATS Sunday 5 and Monday 6 July, 2009 An exhibition of  late 19th century robes, tunics and textile panels that presents the remarkable artistic achievement and technical virtuosity of the silk designers, dyers and weavers of Central Asia.
		FREE CONTEMPORARY ART TOURS Last Wednesday evening of every month Join our Contempo Guides for an informative tour of the Art Gallery's Contemporary Collection. After the tour join Contempo for a glass of wine in the Members' Lounge.
		ART CLASSES Weekend drawing, collage, painting and photography workshops Contempo's art classes are taken by well known Australian artists and happen throughout the year. Book early to avoid disappoint with these popular classes.
